My head went clunk when I saw the official list [PDF] of Cash for Clunkers cars that were actually destroyed. An Aston Martin DB7 - that's one at left - got clunked for a maximum trade-in subsidy of $4500. For context, here's a DB7 sale listing. Similar cars are over 50Gs in the US.
This stinks. Even a DB7 crashed into the ocean while it was on fire is worth more than $4500. The Aston is an anomaly, but other desirable, now-ruined, cars are not.
